- 5. Proposed action from Hugo re. joint Tech Plenary with OASIS
[from hugo]
- [MSM]
- HH: Oasis proposed a joint WS technical plenary, with both W3C
and Oasis groups meeting together,
- around XML 2003 conference in December.
- [davidF]
- re.
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-ws-cg/2003Jun/0001.html
- [MSM]
- At this point, just an idea. W3M wants to know whether WS WGs
are interested.
- DF: is this a good idea?
- JM: Desc is amenable. We have a ftf in November, so December
sounds a bit odd wrt to timing.
- But maybe a two-day Desc meeting focused solely on coordination
with the other groups?
- So if we get lower turnout than at other ftfs, it won't be the
end of the world. in addition to regular meeting schedule
- MC: I understand suggestion to be having a meeting of the IG?
HH: no, meeting co-located with other W3C and Oasis groups,
adjacent to XML 2003, Phila, Dec.
- MC: like JM, I would expect diminished attendance, but I'd be
happy to do it. I'll put it to the WG.
- SRT: we've invited the Oasis BPEL TC chairs to our meeting, so
in principle we seem to be on board.
- Until we've actually met together with them, however, it's
still not clear whether it's a good thing or a can of worms.
- DF: so you'll know then whether it's a good idea or not.
- DF: from XMLP pov, this is the first we've heard of it. I'll
put it to WG tomorrow.
- [Marsh]
- ACTION: Chairs to get feedback from their groups on the idea of
a WS W3C/OASIS tech plenary in Dec.

- 7. WSIG proposal [from hugo]
- [hugo]
- Proposal:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-ws-cg/2003Jun/0002.html
- [Marsh]
- David: Hugo, summary please?
- [MSM]
- HH: we've been approached in lots of fora suggesting we should
look at Semantic Web Services.
- ... Eventually, it became clear there was interest in a less
formal forum for discussion of WS issues generally.
- ... One characterization: a group able to help do an RDF
mapping.
- ... One characterization: a group able to help ____ do an RDF
mapping.
- [Marsh]
- ____ = WS Desc WG
- [MSM]
- ... BOF at tech plenary discussed this, and we have presented
proposal to CG several times, resulting in the current proposed
charter (see URL above)
- Review deliverables of W3C and non-W3C working groups related
to Web services.
- Discuss implementation and deployment of Web services and Web
services technologies.
- Explore new fields of use for Web services.
- Explore pre-standardisation research issues for next-generation
Web services, e.g. relationship with autonomous agent technology,
distributed query protocols, etc.
- Share experiences with creation and deployment of Web services
created using SOAP, WSDL, REST, RDF and other Semantic Web
technologi
- technologies (e.g. DAML-S), and others.
- Discuss appropriate use of Semantic Web technologies in the
discovery, composition, relocatability and other aspects of Web
services needs.
- Provide guidance and advice, when requested, to the Web
services Working Groups on charter requirements for mapping to RDF
languages.
- HH: on 13 May, we presented the then draft, which elicited
comments:
- - the nature of the IG was to explore new things; this needed
to be clearer
- - more motivation needed; we've added some text
- - need to show relation to Arch WG.
- [hugo]
- [MSM]
- [HH reads text]
- HH: we believe CG's concerns have all been addressed.
- DF: any questions? thoughts? SRT: only positive ones. I have
use cases to justify this right now.
- SRT: for financial services, some aspects of WS are too
low-level; this could help.
- Particularly wrt searching for Web services, based on complex
behavioral types.
- EM: what he said. Plus (from pov of AC member), can we review
relation to Arch again?
- HH: a concrete example: when Arch WG started work on
Management, lots of work was done by a TF.
- A good part of TF's report was felt to be out of scope for
Arch, because too detailed for an Arch document.
- TF wanted to continue the discussion.
- The IG would be a good place for such exploratory work.
- The discussion might result in comments on / issues against the
Arch document.
- But IG discussions may be fairly different from those of Arch
WG.
- Arch WG is discussing core concepts and properties; IG
discussions I expect to be much more appication-oriented
high-level.
- JM: seems harmless enough.

- em, you wanted to ask again about interactions with
