The term type annotation is used in this
specification to refer to the value returned by the dm:type-name
accessor of a node: see .

Each element node and attribute node in an
XDM instance has a type annotation (referred to in as its type-name
property.) The type annotation of a node is a schema type that
describes the relationship between the string value of the node and
its typed value.

A type error may be raised during the
static analysis phase or the dynamic evaluation phase. During the
static analysis phase, a type error occurs when the static type of
an expression does not match the expected type of the context in
which the expression occurs. During the dynamic evaluation phase, a
type error occurs when the dynamic type of a value does not match
the expected type of the context in which the value occurs.

Certain errors are classified as type
errors. A type error occurs when the value supplied as input to an
operation is of the wrong type for that operation, for example when
an integer is supplied to an operation that expects a node.

Glossary for this

The term typed value is defined in . Every
node except an element defined in the schema with element-only
content has a typed value. For example, the typed value of an
attribute of type xs:IDREFS is a sequence of zero or more xs:IDREF
values.
