W3C launched the Web Payments Interest Group in October 2014 then changed the name to “Web Commerce Interest Group” in 2017 to match the group’s broader charter. The group closes on 14 September 2019; a summary of the group’s successes is available.
A number of mechanisms may be used to bring new Web Commerce ideas into W3C:
- Some topics may fall within the chartered scope of the Web Payments Working Group or Web Payment Security Interest Group. If so, please consult resources for those groups (e.g., mailing lists or GitHub). See also the list of all W3C Working Groups and Interest Groups.
- Please look at the list of existing Community Groups to see whether one matches a topic of interest. If not, anyone can propose a new Community Group.
- People may raise an issue with the W3C Strategy Team.
- At least for now, W3C anticipates keeping the WCIG’s mailing list open. W3C staff expects to monitor that list lightly.
- From time to time, W3C may also organize a workshop, a face-to-face community gathering around new topics related to Web Commerce.
Many thanks to the participants of the Web Commerce Interest Group!
