Loving and Leaving W3C
I love my work at W3C. Being part of the team striving to lead the Web to its full potential and to make it more accessible to millions of people with disabilities around the world is my passion. This August will mark my 18-year anniversary working for this unique organization, of which I cherish every hour.
Yet recently I’ve also been hearing a calling – a calling to try something new, to further grow personally and professionally, and to gain more applied experience in implementing digital accessibility standards. Today I formally resigned from W3C, and my last day of work will be 30th September 2021.
However, I won’t be far away. As of 1st October 2021 I will be working on evolving digital accessibility, including the Web and beyond, at a large tech company. I will continue to work from Europe, be active in W3C, and contribute to the essential work of the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
So this is not really a goodbye. It’s a new and exciting opportunity for me to contribute in a different role to the truly wonderful community of digital accessibility. Until then I remain fully committed to W3C, and to completing as much as possible from my currently open tasks.
Hey Shadi,
so sorry to hear you will be moving on later this year. You're presence in Europe has been hugely important for those of us working on web accessibility on this side of the pond. You've been a huge help to me and my Centre for Universal Design - especially during the most difficult times of Mandate 376. I look forward to working with you over the remainder of your time in W3C.
So... different chair, same table?
Congratulations my friend on the next step of your professional life. I just know you're gonna slay whatever you take on next, and I look forward to seeing you around :-)
Shadi,
I wish you the best for your new journey!
And Congratulations.
Shadi,
In my experience, change gives you the best opportunity for growth. It's sometimes hard to do, but you'll definitely grow from it!
All the best!
Bon courage a vous Shadi et merci pour votre dévouement durant toutes ces dernières années
bon vent pour vos nouveaux projets
Congratulations on the move, Shadi, but you will be missed! You have been a constant at the W3C for so long!
Hope to hear from you at your new role.
I am happy for you and excited for new journey.
Your contribution at WAI is well recognised and appreciated by the digital accessibility community.
Keep up the good work and all the best for your future,
Rabab Gomaa
It is always exciting to have the opportunity to see things from another perspective. I am glad to know that it is not a goodbye and that we will count on your valuable contribution from that new position.
